Josh Brolin Confirms He Was Up for Batman

No Country For Old Men Actor Josh Brolin has revealed he spoke with Man of Steel director Zack Snyder about becoming Batman in the Man of Steel sequel. The True Grit star added that he was aware of the backlash Affleck received once the announcement of his casting was made, and criticised fanboys and girl for getting personal.

“We did. I didn’t have conversations about it, but Zack, that was part of his idea. It just didn’t turn out. It’s OK. It is OK. You know, another scenario might have worked better, but I’m happy for Ben.”

On being asked about Warner’s decision to cast Ben Affleck, Brolin commented:

‘I’ve never seen such a global reaction in my life’ Brolin told The Huffington Post, ‘I feel for him, truly. I would not want to be him right now. The reaction becomes so personal. It’s like “F**k this guy, I wish he was dead.” And you’re like “What? Dude, seriously? This guy is just working like you are. He’s doing the same thing you are. He’s trying to make the best choices he can.”’

Wolverine actor Hugh Jackman also lent his support for Ben as Bats:

“I have a great trainer for Ben. But Ben is poised to crush it. I’m really happy for him. I’m so happy he got the part. The difficult part of the role is the Bruce Wayne part. I think he will crush it, and I’m really excited to see what he does. He’s ready for it. I love Ben—he’s super smart, very talented, and he will be around for a long time. I think people are gonna to love it.”

Personally, I would have loved to have seen Brolin as Batman. You can only imagine the cold and calculated portrayal he would have brought to Bruce Wayne. My guess is that Snyder wanted Brolin, but Warner wanted Affleck – because they wanted him to direct the upcoming Batman reboots. I suppose only time will really tell.

I would have loved to have seen Brolin as Batman, he is such a versatile actor with so much range of character. Nevertheless, i think Ben Afleck will definitely kill it, the script of the movie will play a huge part in the way the actor portrays the role, if we are lucky to see a script based on Injustice gods among us or the dark knight returns, we are in for a treat. Dawn of justice is going to be the best DC movie yet and if I dare say it, Afleck could very well be way better than Bale. *hides*
