The official Alien Twitter account has released an Alien: Covenant cast image, which confirms James Franco (as Captain Branson) as part of the unfortunate cast.
The image shows the full crew of the Covenant for the first time. In addition to Franco, the R-rated film stars Michael Fassbender, Katherine Waterston, Danny McBride, Billy Crudup, Amy Seimetz, Jussie Smollett, Carmen Ejogo, Nathaniel Dean, Alexander England, Callie Hernandez, Demián Bichir and Benjamin Rigby. That’s quite a lot of prey for the Xenomorphs to hunt down.
Franco seemed curiously absent from a lot of the previous promotional material, including the film’s first trailer. Perhaps we’ll get our first real look at his character in the upcoming teaser planned for release later today.
The image is clearly inspired by the iconic Last Supper painting by Leonardo da Vinci. Is there a hidden clue to his role in the film? Or does it simply suggest the crew’s impending doom? Either way, the Alien: Covenant cast looks really solid. Except for the obvious fly in the soup, Danny McBride. Let’s hope he meets a painful death.
For all the ships and crew they have sent into space, you’d think that these future explorers would have learnt to defend themselves from these creatures by now. But alas.

Alien: Covenant has a May 19, 2017 release date.
Ridley Scott returns to the universe he created in ALIEN with ALIEN: COVENANT, the second chapter in a prequel trilogy that began with PROMETHEUS — and connects directly to Scott’s 1979 seminal work of science fiction. Bound for a remote planet on the far side of the galaxy, the crew of the colony ship Covenant discovers what they think is an uncharted paradise, but is actually a dark, dangerous world — whose sole inhabitant is the “synthetic” David (Michael Fassbender), survivor of the doomed Prometheus expedition.
