Interbrand, a corporate identity and brand consulting company owned by the Omnicom Group, has once again revealed their list of the top 100 brands in world. Last year saw Coca-Cola narrowly hang onto the top spot on the list, with the 127-year company showing dominance at the top since Interbrand first released the list in 2000. This year’s top honours for most valuable brand, according to Interbrand, goes to Apple, after an increase of 28%, with Google close behind in second with an increase of 34%. The two companies have been battling for supremacy in the mobile OS space in recent years; Google’s Android OS sneaking into a clear lead in 2013.
The list of top brands is based on financial performance and global coverage and popularity, in conjunction with many other, more technical, criteria. Despite Coca-Cola slipping off the top spot to third for the first time, the brand still holds most of its value. The major difference in recent times is how the other technology-based companies have grown, with Coca-Cola the only major player in the top 5 not in the technology space.
