Mogwai. Don’t feed them after midnight. Don’t get them wet. Don’t take them out in the sunlight. Everybody remembers the rules from the first two cult classic Gremlins films. Now, director Ryan Patrick has conjured up all those special memories with the nostalgic fan-film, Gremlins: Recall.
It’s been 27 years since the original films that saw the mischievous Mogwai/Gremlin creatures take over the Box Office. Meant as a sequel to the 1984 film, Gremlins: Recall sees genetically-enhanced critters being sold to the general public as pets. Of course, it’s not long before things go terribly wrong.
The Christmas-themed short is really well done, using practical effects and puppeteering. It is a great throwback to the ’80s films.
“The film follows Claire as she works the late night shift in her aunt’s diner. When she sees Owen, a Mogwai delivery driver, torturing the cute creatures, she tries to take matters into her own hands, not knowing what they can become.”
