Google Nexus 4 Revealed

Despite the cancellation of the event in New York due to Hurricane Sandy, Google still kept to its word on announcing the new Nexus phone. With the growing interest in tech over the years, keeping major releases from the media becomes an impossible task. We’ve already seen Apple’s badly kept secret, the iPad Mini, launch last week, and this time around it’s Google’s turn. Although the OEM, specs and looks were released over time for Google’s next pure Android smartphone, the LG Nexus 4 E960 is now official.

Here’s a brief look at the official list of specs:

  • Display: 4.7” True HD IPS Plus (1,280x768px resolution)
  • Screen: Gorilla Glass 2
  • CPU: Quad-core 1.5 GHz Krait CPU, Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro chipset
  • GPU: Adreno 320
  • RAM: 2GB of RAM
  • Battery: 2100mAh Li-Po
  • Camera: 8MP rear camera

Despite the really awesome specifications for LG and Google’s new flagship smartphone, there is an obvious lack of LTE support. We suspect that later versions of the device will appear with LTE and CDMA support (for US residents).

LG Nexus 4 E960 will come pre-installed with Android 4.2, the latest OS release. Although many were expecting a Key-Lime Pie launch for 4.2, Google kept the Jelly Bean moniker for this update, going against what Android fans have become used to. Although the update doesn’t see a great overhaul, the additions and improvements will definitely keep fans happy, as the OS continues go move in the right direction.

Android 4.2 sees an update of multiple apps including 3D Maps, Street View and Indoor Maps, Photo Sphere, generic keyboard (added gestures), Google Now, and a few others. FoS will feature a more in-depth look at the update later today.

As with all other Google Nexus devices, it will be made available for pre-order and purchase from the Google Play store. Unfortunately for South Africans, this section of the online store isn’t yet enabled, which also includes Google Music. The LG Nexus 4 will be available from 13 November 2012, sufficient time to make your decision before Xmas.
