Star Wars creator George Lucas has given Star Wars: The Last Jedi a thumbs up, praising Rian Johnson’s visual direction. Already Certified Fresh on Rotten Tomatoes (94%), it seems like Lucas, who has been very critical about the direction of the franchise, thought the 8th episode was “beautifully made.”
A representative for Lucas, Connie Wethington, provided THR with a comment from the Star Wars creator. “In speaking with director Rian Johnson after viewing, [Lucas] was complimentary,” she said.
This is a great endorsement for Star Wars: The Last Jedi and a great boost of morale for Johnson.
While the comment “beautifully made” doesn’t exactly comment on Lucas’ thoughts about the story, it’s a lot more complimentary than his thoughts on the previous instalment, The Force Awakens.
Disney paid Lucas, who wrote and directed the prequels, a whopping $4.05 billion to buy the franchise in 2012. Since then, he hasn’t been actively involved with any of the decisions regarding Star Wars. Even still, it’s great to hear that he approves of Star Wars: The Last Jedi.
