In an Interview with Gamespot, it was revealed that Xbox One exclusive Gears of War 4 would include micro-transactions for cosmetic items.
Rod Fergusson The head of The Coalition , the studio behind Gears of War 4, explained “I feel like that paradigm of cards is really clear to understand for collectibles, like the ability to collect things. We had weapon skins and character skins, so that idea of collecting cards is just easily understood,”
These cards and crates will have different levels of rarity which should add some “engagement” to collecting them. Fergusson likened the new process to buying Magic: The Gathering Booster pack saying “If I could just buy the one card I want then I’m out, then you lose it, right?”
Using real money to buy crates is totally optional as they can be earned through normal play as well.”We’re going to be balanced where you’re going to be constantly getting crates, or enough credits to get crates through the game, so it really is just about your choice” Fergusson said.
Gears of War 4 launches on Xbox One in October with its multiplayer Beta beginning the 18th of April
