SingStar Celebration is all about having fun with your friends and family. It’s probably one of the best karaoke games available on console at the moment and it should be a hit selection for your summer karaoke parties. Thanks to the SingStar MIC app everyone can join in on the celebration.

Celebration is another PlayLink and PlayStation exclusive release, like Knowledge is Power and Hidden Agenda. It’s a rebrand of the famous series for the PlayStation 4 and transforms your smartphone into a microphone using the SingStar MIC app, which is available for Android and iOS smartphones but does not work on tablets. You can also use compatible wired or wireless microphones. Thankfully, the MIC app worked pretty well over the Wi-Fi network and I hardly experienced any problems. The app also comes in pretty handy when creating playlists with your favourite songs.

Like previous releases, Singstar Celebration includes 30 pop classics with a wide range of songs for everyone, ranging from golden oldies to newer pop songs. You can purchase hundreds of extra songs (for around R20) and get free demos from the online SingStore to sing-a-long to.

The party mode allows for up to 8 players to join in on the fun by singing duets and doing other fun challenges to beat your family and friends. You can also show off your talents online using the PlayStation Camera by recording your performances and uploading videos and photos to social media or to the online community.

All-in-all, the franchise continues to be fun, even after thirty-eight releases since 2004’s SingStar on PS2. As a karaoke game, it’s pretty solid. However, fans shouldn’t expect anything revolutionary here. SingStar Celebration lets you sing your heart out and goof around at the same time. I mean, isn’t that what karaoke parties are all about?
