The First Official Image Of The DCEU's Shazam Has Arrived

We’ve seen the set photos. We’ve heard the complaints. We also saw photos of Levi working out. We’ve even read the defensive responses from Zachary Levi regarding his costume in the film. Now, after a fairly long wait, we finally have our first look at DC’s Shazam in costume.

The new pic features Shazam, or Captain Marvel, outside a convenience store alongside his buddy Freddy Feeman, who will be played by IT star Jack Dylan Grazer. And as you can see, the costume looks pretty much the same or similar to what we’ve seen before.

Prepare yourself for complaints about the padding, the colour, the shorter cape, and the overall simplicity of the suit. To be fair, director David F. Sandberg, best known for his work on Lights Out and Annabelle: Creation, has kept things pretty similar to the comic books, especially the Golden Age look of Shazam.

“I wanted to keep the shorter cape as a throwback to the original because that’s something that sets him apart from Superman or Batman. It makes him feel a bit more Golden Age superhero, which is the vibe I’m going for,” the director explained.

Let’s hope this official image is a sign that a teaser trailer is coming soon. With Warner Bros.’ San Diego Comic-Con presentation coming up, it just might be.

Shazam is set to arrive in theatres on April 5, 2019.

  1. I kind of liked the hooded cloak he had in the animated films, but I understand why they went with this cape for the film. It does help distinguish CM from Big Blue.
