Entelect R100K Challenge Finalists Announced

Written by

This past Saturday, 12th September, Entelect held their annual R100K Challenge event, which was hosted by The Protea Hotel, Fire & Ice, at Melrose Arch, Johannesburg. The R100K Challenge was launched in 2012, and has grown greatly in just its fourth year. In association with NAG Magazine, along with the official Sponsor, Sony, this year’s challenge plays homage to a classic arcade game, Space Invaders.

Challengers, from both novice and professional categories, were requested to test their AI coding skills in, with their work (bots) ultimately facing off against one another in front of the audience at the event. From the 80 entrants who made it through to the play-offs, the 41 best performing bots have been placed into Pool A and the remaining 39 in Pool B, with the former competing for R100,000 and the latter for R50,000.

According to Tim Kroon, General Manger of Resourcing at Entelect, the company “will also put a particular focus on targeting students for this year’s Challenge, as they have recognised the incredible untapped range of AI skills among this network. “We invite all students and school-goers to take part, and test their theoretic knowledge on a practical platform – not only is this a great opportunity to enjoy a challenging gaming experience and network with some of the best South Africa has to offer in the field, but you could be the next winner!”

After the dust had settled, only four entrants remained for the two Pools, who will now move on to rAge 2015 (4th October), where the end battles will commence. The finalists for the event are as follows:

Pool A:

  • Leonard Seymore
  • Pierre Pretorius
  • Bernard Haussermann
  • Mike Yudaken

Pool B:

  • Leon Botha
  • Jack Wright
  • Jaco Van Niekerk
  • Matthew Mullin
