DC and Marvel have been having a bit of a ping-pong match over the last few days. For every trailer or poster released there is a new casting or teaser. The latest news is that 90s action star Dolph Lundgren has joined the Aquaman cast.
At one point, Swedish actor Dolph Lundgren, most famously known as Ivan Dragon in Rocky IV, was also a favourite to play Cable in Fox’s Deadpool 2. However, it seems the tide has turned and he will appear in Aquaman instead, alongside Jason Momoa, as King Nereus.
The character first appeared in 2013’s Geoff Johns-penned Aquaman #19 and was the leader of the Xebels, an exiled group of Atlanteans. Later, in the ‘Rise of the Seven Seas’ arc, Nereus finds Ocean Master, Aquaman’s half-brother, who has been living on land and asks him to join him in finding the Seven Seas and ruling the world.
Aquaman will star Jason Momoa, Amber Heard as Mera, Willem Dafoe as Vulko, Nicole Kidman as Queen Atlanna, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as Black Manta, and Temuera Morrison as Aquaman’s father. It’s being directed by James Wan (Furious Seven, The Conjuring), written by Will Beall (Gangster Squad), and produced by Charles Roven, Deborah Snyder and Zack Snyder.
