Daniel Wellington Dapper Durham - Watch Review

With smartphones shaping almost every part of our lives, there is little room for traditional fashion wear like an analog wristwatch. The honest truth is that most people rely on their miniature digital assistants to provide them with all information, including the time and date. Yet, even amidst all the technology around, there is something remarkable about the Daniel Wellington’s Dapper Durham watch. It oozes class, style, and elegance.

Yes, a watch is a watch is a watch… but also, it’s not. Yes, it doesn’t allow you to play Pokemon Go or program a calendar, but it will certainly make you look good. The classic and simple look of the Dapper Durham watch makes it easy on the eye, but also practical and straightforward for everyday use. Think James Bond minus the silly tech.

When the Daniel Wellington company contacted me and asked me if I’m interested in reviewing one of the watches, the answer was fairly easy. I had a look at their website and the wide range of preppy watches on offer and settled on the Dapper Durham model. The combination of the rose gold, leather strap, Roman numerals, and dark blue arms made an impression on me. It looks clean and crisp.

When it arrived in the mail a few days later, I was highly impressed with the leather box it’s packaged in. Like the watch itself, it is both a classy and practical place to store the watch. Inside the box, you’ll also find a small manual, warranty slip (2-year guarantee), and a small tool for the interchangeable strap.

The watch itself is beautiful. The brown leather strap is comfortable but tough enough to withstand different conditions and suitable for every occasion. It is also removable, meaning you could swap it for one of Daniel Wellington’s other nylon straps available. Another ‘cool’ factor is that the watch itself seems unisex. It looked good on my wrist, and maybe even better on my wife’s.

The Dapper Durham is a great addition to any wardrobe and goes with all styles and ages. With sophisticated details such as deep blue hands, Roman numerals, and a date display, it will always keep you on point in an exquisite way. The watch is available with a silver or rose gold case, which is paired with the light brown Durham strap, made from American leather. Be your own style icon and speak for a handsome and dapper look at all times.

The Durham leather strap is made of genuine American leather and has been treated with vegetable oil. Due to the nature of oily leather, the strap will lighten in color when bent or stretched.

The strap color may vary, and variations in grain, texture and natural markings are not considered defects. Daily activities including sun exposure, handling, water, and conditioning will aid this natural process.

Daniel Wellington watches are manufactured and sold from Sweden but are available at a few local outlets. I have discovered that it is a lot cheaper to order it direct from the website, though. A Daniel Wellington Dapper Durham watch is $250 online, but I’ve seen them sell for over four thousand rand locally. The price is reasonable, however. The quality and craftsmanship is really good. It’s the type of quality timepiece that will make a perfect birthday or Christmas gift.

In conclusion, this watch comes highly recommended. It’s versatile (both smart and casual), easy to read, comfortable, and tells the time. If you’re looking for a watch that does nothing more than make you look good, this is the one for you.
