CW's Freedom Fighters: The Ray Fights Off Nazi Arrow, Flash And Supergirl

Over the weekend, CW Seed unveiled a new trailer from a superhero animated series titled Freedom Fighters: The Ray. The first footage shows the gay hero fighting soldiers in a Nazi-ruled world.

The trailer reveals that Freedom Fighters: The Ray is set on Earth X, an alternate universe (read an alternate Earth in the Arrowverse) where the Nazis won World War II and the group, made up of Phantom Lady, Red Tornado, Black Condor and The Ray (based on writer Grant Morrison’s version of the character), fight as a resistance against the German forces.

Following on the success of the animated Vixen series, CW hopes the character will make the transition from animation to CW live-action TV series too. Like the rest of the Arrowverse,
Greg Berlanti and Marc Guggenheim will serve as executive producers.

Interestingly, the Nazi versions of Arrow and Flash sound like Stephen Amell and Grant Gustin.

“Raymond “Ray” Terrill was a reporter who discovered a group of government scientists working on a secret project to turn light into a weapon of mass destruction. But before he could report on his findings, the project head exposed Ray to a “genetic light bomb.” The bomb failed to kill him and instead gifted Ray with light-based powers. With these abilities, Ray realized he could go beyond reporting on injustice — he could take action to help stop it. Calling himself The Ray, he was recruited by Uncle Sam and the Freedom Fighters to fight violence and oppression wherever it exists.”
