Netflix has announced that they are developing a Castlevania animated series based on the classic video game.

Get Ready To Return To Dracula's Castle As Netflix Announces Castlevania Animated Series

The news was recently confirmed by producer Adi Shankar, who revealed that he was working on the Castlevania animated series for Netflix. The first season of the series is set to debut in 2017, with the second season due the following year. Joining the team is Warren Ellis, who will be writing the series, and Fred Seibert, who is responsible for great animated shows like Dexter’s Laboratory and The PowerPuff Girls. Although no details have been made available regarding the plot, Shankar has hinted in the past that he wants to “flip the vampire sub-genre on its head”.

Castlevania, also known in Japanese as Akumajō Dracula (“Devil’s Castle Dracula”), is a series of dark fantasy-themed action-adventure video games created and developed by Konami, centred on the Belmont family, a clan of vampire hunters, and their fight with Dracula. The series debuted in Japan on September 26, 1986, with the release for the Family Computer Disk System (FDS), followed by an alternate version for the MSX2 platform on October 30.

The Castlevania series has a special place in the heart of most gamers. Hopefully, the team is able to pull it off and give us an animated series that stays true to the original source material.
