Ask anyone and they’ll probably tell you that Bumblebee was one of the main reasons why they’ve followed the Transformers movie franchise. Now, the talking yellow-and-black VW Autobot is finally getting his own film that focuses on his earlier adventures. And, surprisingly, spin-off Bumblebee, which is set in the ’80s and being directed by Travis Knight, looks more promising than the Michael Bay films. It aims for the heart and packs an emotional punch.
On the run in the year 1987, Bumblebee finds refuge in a junkyard in a small Californian beach town. Charlie, on the cusp of turning 18 and trying to find her place in the world, discovers Bumblebee, battle-scarred and broken. When Charlie revives him, she quickly learns this is no ordinary, yellow VW bug.
Hailee Steinfeld leads the cast as Charlie. Bumblebee also features John Cena, Jorge Lendeborg, Jason Drucker, Ricardo Hoyos, and Gracie Dzienny.
