Yes, this is your classic Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles adventures created by Laird and Eastman; but now it is brought to you in full colour thanks to Scorpion Studios. Find out what happens as the Turtles and Casey Jones meet up at their local comic store.
Like everyone strapped for cash, Mikey, Raph and Casey Jones end up heading to the comic store in order to grab some back issues. All of a sudden robots attack the store and the truth is revealed; the odd looking shop owners are in fact super heroes. Our heroes find themselves dragged into the middle of a feud between the Justice Force and the evil Dr Dome, knock off names of note!
The once retired Justice Force assembles once again. Together with Casey Jones and our band of brothers, they join forces in an attempt to foil the plans of Dr. Dome and his Domebot. Honestly, it takes some time to grasp the concept that the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles are now in a universe that involves superheroes. As a reader and follower of the franchise you grow used to the idea that this story involves Ninjutsu and that The Turtles have empowered themselves through practice, discipline and diligence. But now you have superpowers being introduced out of nowhere and this kind of throws off the Feng Shui of the TMNT universe, which usually involves mutations as an excuse for a form of superpower being present in the comic and cartoon.
The Justice Force members are equipped with some rather interesting powers, such as a stainless steel forehead. But it is the power of self-reflection that shines through as the Ninja Turtles receive a life lesson with an important moral from a seemingly youthful looking member of the Justice Force.
The art is basically what you would expect of the classic TMNT. The look and feel is there, only this time it is coloured in. The great part is that although this colouring has been added years later, it feels authentic to the time in which this issue was released. So authentic that you would actually think this issue was printed in colour when it was originally released by Mirage as Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #15.
This is an entertaining read that offers a great once off adventure for the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Whilst the issue is filled with action sequences it manages to pack a serious punch in the form of a powerful moral. The turtles are humbled by the wisdom of heroes that preceded them. The colouring helps bring the book to life once more and it is done with great care and precision, really capturing the essence of a Ninja Turtle adventure.
