We Are Robin is a bold new take on the Batman sidekick. Set in Gotham, a group of teenagers decide to take their city back and free it of crime. They do this by adopting the identity of “Robin”. At the centre of it all is a new recruit named Duke Thomas.

Duke Thomas is the same teenager that fell victim to Jokers sickening antics. He watched his parents die as The Joker attempted to re-enact the death of Batman’s parents. Ultimately, Batman saved Duke, but Duke’s parents were victims of the Joker’s latest virus. Duke shows that he is capable of fending for himself in this issue and he displays some great athleticism.

Currently “Robin” has become a movement in Gotham, one which has inspired teenagers to be responsible and take their streets back from crime lords and killers. Teenagers of different races, gender, creed and ages have all take up the mantle of Robin as they begin to partner up in order to make Gotham a safer place. This volume collects issues 1-6 and it sets up the basis for this all new DC comic arc.

The art is great and very explosive. There is a nice inclusion of some brighter colours and the art is very sharp and detailed, yet it has a nice cartoony feel to it. It looks like a Teen Titans title set in Gotham and it is filled with the energy to match. It is easy to follow the characters and their movements as this is a comic that has many action sequences that feature great hand to hand combat and acrobatics.

Overall, this is an enjoyable read that also includes a sneak peek into the Converge arc. We are Robin is a promising title and we have so much more to learn about the other Robins that fight alongside Duke. While it is not as dark as the other Batman titles, this does not steal away from this book being entertaining.
