The second installment of The Hunger Games, Catching Fire, has hit the Blu-Ray rack. The movie did not follow the 3D trend, but brought a book to life through the magic of HD. The single Blu Ray disc packs a punch with a sneaky behind the scenes look at Divergent (a similar series), and a complete look at the making of Catching Fire. If you’re a real movie buff, and want to know what the actors’ real accents sound like, the bonus features will not disappoint.

The Story

Following the heroic tale of Katniss Everdeen, Catching Fire picks up where The Hunger Games left off. Peeta and Katniss have returned victors, and are currently staying in District 11’s Victors Village – a very neglected dwelling, but anything is better than their previous makeshift homes (am I right?).

Katniss, conflicted of her love for Gale, has to keep up the charade of her “I’d-rather-die” love for Peeta in order to protect her family and everyone she cares for. President Snow was not impressed with her attempted suicide at the end of The 74th Hunger Games, and warns Katniss that if she fails to make him believe her and Peeta are in love, there will be dire consequences.

The Victory Tour commences, where they are again reunited with Effie Trinket, Haymitch and Cinna. Chaos ensues when Katniss becomes the symbol of the rebellion – the girl on fire. To prevent an uprising, the Capitol announces the 75th Hunger Games Quarter Quell, and reaps volunteers from the existing winner’s pool. District 11 only has one female… Katniss.

Video Quality

The video is 1080P High Definition 16×9 2.40:1 (for those of you who understand that).
The CGI in the movie truly looks realistic, and gives life to this fictional world. I was honestly scared to death by how realistic the animals were, especially in a particular scene… but I’m not going to give that away.

Audio Quality

The audio and language is 7.1 DTS-HD Master Audio English 2.0 Dolby Digital English Commentary.
The movie also has an incredible soundtrack with the likes of Coldplay, Ellie Goulding, and Of Monsters and Men. It’s the perfect music to calmly contemplate life over, or enjoy the soothing yet upbeat sounds of rebellion.

Extras

See just how much Jennifer and Josh goof around on set, and what went into making such a highly anticipated movie.
