There are many fan-made films on YouTube these days, mostly involving big name movies such as Batman, Superman, Star Wars and Star Trek. These fan-made films are made by die-hard fans often as a means to ‘fix’ errors in plots from industry-based movies, or simply because they cannot wait for the next title to be released. The majority of these films are made purely for the love of the franchise, without any monetary compensation.
John E. Hudgens has created a documentary title Backyard Blockbusters, which explores the history and world of fan-films. The documentary revolves around the creation of such films by the fans, and how most of Hollywood studios attempt to block these films from reaching an audience, or suing when they do.
