Local music consumers were doing cartwheels this morning when technology company Apple announced the launch of the iTunes Store in South Africa and over 52 additional countries, including Russia, Turkey and India.
iTunes SA features a huge selection of local (Zahara, Toya Delazy, Khaya Mthetwa) and international music (The Beatles, Taylor Swift and Coldplay) from all the major labels and thousands of independent labels around the world. It’s available to iPhone, iPad, iPod, Mac and PC users with an iTunes installation. Finally South African users will be able to download music without having to piggyback on friends and family from overseas. Apple claims that iTunes has over 20 million tracks available for purchase, and that movies and series fans will be able to access thousands of movies and shows. Unfortunately, movie fans will have to wait a little longer, as that service is not yet available locally. Drat!
iTunes 11 for Mac and Windows includes the iTunes Store and is available as a free download from apple.com/itunes
