Beauty, brains and brawn, our girl’s got it all! Wonder Woman, Queen of DC Comics’ Holy Trinity and the most widely recognised super-heroine in the world, stands shoulder to shoulder with the World’s Greatest Hero and the World’s Greatest Detective remaining unflinched while exuding an aura of substance with an atomic mega dropkick of style. Yeah, yeah, all of this you know, but here are a few things that you might not…

1. Suprema, Queen of the Amazons! Wait… what?

In the early 1940s Psychologist William Marston, with help of his wife, created a female superhero named Suprema. She was given all the strength of Superman while having the allure of a virtuous and beautiful woman. She carried a magical lasso which forced the truth out of anyone caught in its clutches and wore silver bracelets that deflected bullets! Suprema was a native of an all-female utopia who became a crime-fighting U.S. government agent. Fortunately, the name Suprema was dropped before going to print and Wonder Woman, the great Amazonian ass-kicking machine was born!

2. The Goddess of Truth ‘bought’ her secret identity!

Wonder Woman once encountered a sobbing army nurse named Diana Prince, while trying to meet an injured Steve Trevor. The nurse was unable to leave for South America with her fiancé due to a shortage of money. Noticing that Diana Prince looked almost identical to herself, Wonder Woman offered Prince the money she needed in exchange for her credentials and job in order to take care of Steve Trevor.

3. Even without her powers Diana is still an awesome badass!

In the late 1960s, Wonder Woman was rendered powerless when she forfeited her superpowers to remain in Man’s World. She would go on to develop mad fighting skills after meeting mentor and martial arts master I Ching. All while running a boutique!

4. Wonder Mum! Wonder Woman’s mother Hippolyta once took on the mantle of Wonder Woman.

Wonder Woman was once killed in battle against the demon Neron and was resurrected by the Olympian Gods. She resided with the Gods in Olympus and was granted the role of the Goddess of Truth. Her mother Hippolyta assumed the role of Wonder Woman, wearing a different version of the iconic costume, favouring a broadsword over Diana’s Lasso of Truth.

5. Wonder Woman had a daughter! (OMG!)

Hippolyta “Lyta” Trevor was the daughter of the Golden Age Wonder Woman and Steve Trevor. She was raised among a unique mixture of typical American and ancient Amazonian cultures. Lyta did not turn to crime fighting until she met the modern day Wonder Woman but Diana insisted that Lyta had to finish her education first. Lyta began a relationship with her childhood friend, Hector Hall. Determined to become the next generation of heroes, Lyta and Hector adopted the secret identities of Fury and Silver Scarab and formed Infinity Inc.

6. Princess Diana could even kick Google Translate’s ass!

Wonder Woman has shown heightened proficiency with world languages, being able to speak her native Themysciran, Ancient and Modern Greek, English, Spanish, Portuguese, French, Mandarin, Russian and Hindi. She even spoke Cantonese during an interview with Lois Lane!

7. Superman’s close shave with Wonder Woman!

In Wonder Woman #219 – Sacrifice, Maxwell Lord takes control of Superman by projecting a vision of Doomsday killing Lois Lane, making Superman think that Wonder Woman was Doomsday. While in battle with Superman Wonder Woman throws her tiara at him slicing his throat open and disabling him temporarily.

8. Wonder Woman was hired by the Justice Society of America to be their… WAIT FOR IT… Secretary. (Say what now?)

In the early 1940s, the leading superhero squad in DC Comics was the Justice Society of America. The team conducted their adventures in the pages of All-Star Comics which happened to be the same publication where Wonder Woman made her debut. The Amazon Princess joined the society to help out as an honourary member. By the end of the adventure, the JSA was so impressed with her that they offered to hire her as their secretary! I wonder what she’d have to say about that today? *wink*
