25th ICON Comics and Games Convention

Attention all Geeks! The 25th edition of the ICON Comic and Games Convention is set to raise its ‘game’ substantially.

The ICON Comics and Gaming Convention is South Africa’s longest-running convention of it’s kind and seen by most as being on par with many of the best hobby and gaming conventions in the world.

This year the convention promises to be bigger, better and bolder. Geeks from all walks of life will come together to celebrate all things gaming, comic and geek related. The convention will be taking place from the 16th – 18th of June 2017 at Johannesburg’s Gallagher Convention Centre.

25th Edition Of ICON Convention Promises To Be Bigger And Better

ICON 2017 promises something for everyone. Whether you are an avid tabletop gamer, into the latest tech and video games, cosplaying and, of course, comics, you will be sure to find it at the ICON. The convention will also be showcasing international guests, local thought leaders, over 40 speaker panels, expert player showdowns, a comedy event, and innovative activations, including multinational tech giants such as Canon, Gigabyte and MakerBot, amongst others. Media Partners, Student Brands, and Nickelodeon will ensure that the best moments of this 25th Edition live on beyond the boundaries of the convention.

If cosplaying is your thing then you’ll be happy to hear that one of the world’s most popular cosplayers, Linda Le, aka Vampy Bit Me, will be the cosplay guest of honour this year. If you are a fan of tabletop roleplaying (like I am) then there’s some more good news as published author and co-creator of the Pathfinder Roleplaying game and creative director of the new Starfinder roleplaying game, James Stutter, will be participating in the convention.

Movie and sci-fi buffs can stand a chance to win double passes to the first South African screening of Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets. All you have to do is attend either of two Valerian panels at the conventions (and why wouldn’t you?). The first panel is titled “Create an Alien” and will see James Stutter designing a new never before seen alien species from the ground up and will then have Sean Izaakse, the current artist on the Marvel’s Avengers comic book, drawing the strange new creature that James has designed.

The convention will also feature a group of local panellists which will include tech analyst and commentator Arthur Goldstuck, and Nikki Bush, a well-known columnist and specialist in the field of ‘child play and development’ matters.

Lastly, get ready to laugh like never before when six of SA’s funniest comedians take to the stage on the 17th of June 2017 at the ICON Comedy Evening.

So, whether you are a geek, cosplayer, gamer, comic fanatic, or just love anything related to fun, be sure to pop in at ICON 2017.
