Nintendo has announced that Japan will be getting their own little retro console in the form of the Mini Famicom (Family Computer).

Famicom
Just like the Mini NES for the west, the Mini Famicom fits snugly into the palm of your hand and even better plugs into your TV using the HDMI port. Unlike the Mini NES it comes with two wired controllers instead of one, but just like the New 3DS it doesn’t come bundled with an AC adapter meaning you would have to buy one individually.

It will also come with 30 games preloaded on it. Some of these will not be found on the Mini NES that is coming to the west such as Final Fantasy III. For those thinking of importing one of these little gems keep in mind that understanding the games might be a teeny bit difficult if your Japanese isn’t up to scratch.

I would love to have a Mini NES and Mini Famicom standing side by side next to my PS4 and Xbox One, a bit of the old and a bit of the new.

Below is the announcement trailer (in Japanese) as well as a list of the 30 games that will come preloaded on the Mini Famicom:

  • Donkey Kong
  • Pac-Man
  • Excitebike
  • Balloon Fight
