It’s official. Netflix’s hit sci-fi series will be back for a second season in 2017. The adventure continues.
Good news for fans of Stranger Things fans. The show, a 1980s-set sci-fi thriller, has been renewed for a second season, which will consist of nine episodes. Writers/creators Matt and Ross Duffer will return. Not much is known about the story as yet, accept that it will pick up about a year later, in the fall of 1984. It’s still unclear on whether or not Eleven will return, but the show will add four new characters.
“There are definitely a lot of cliffhanger-y threads at the end [of the Season 1 finale],” explained Matt Duffer. “It’s open-ended in a way that if people wanted it, and Netflix wanted it, we could explore it and continue the storyline.”
Netflix released the below teaser to confirm season 2. The show surpassed their wildest expectations by raking in tons of views. Stranger Things’ first season is the third most-watched to debut this year. After 35 days streaming, 14.07m adults aged 18–49 have reportedly watched, at least half of Netflix’s subscriber base.
Stranger Things stars Winona Ryder, David Harbour, Finn Wolfhard, Millie Brown, Gaten Matarazzo, Caleb McLaughlin, Noah Schnapp, Natalia Dyer, Cara Buono, Charlie Heaton, and Matthew Modine.
Netflix’s Stranger Things is set in Hawkins Indiana in the 1980’s and chronicles the search for a young boy who vanishes into thin air under highly suspicious circumstances. His mother (Winona Ryder) opens an investigation into the boy’s disappearance with local authorities that unravels a series of mysteries involving top-secret government experiments, terrifying supernatural forces and one very strange little girl. A love letter to the ubiquitous cult classics of the 80’s, Stranger Things is a coming of age story for three boys that draws this quaint community into a world where mysteries lurk beneath the surface.’
