Lumia 950 and 950XL

Microsoft South Africa has pulled the wraps off of its new Lumia 950 and 950 XL smartphones, which take advantage of powerful and versatile hardware to unlock novel Windows 10 experiences. These include fast and secured login with Windows Hello beta for Lumia, as well as Continuum for phones, which enables these mobile devices to work like PCs when connected to a screen.

The Lumia 950 and Lumia 950 XL are the first Lumia phones to come pre-loaded with Windows 10 – delivering on our promise of one familiar and consistent experience that transitions seamlessly across Windows devices from key apps like Office built-in to access to all your stuff via OneDrive and the cloud.

By utilising the Continuum capability for phones and connecting one of these Lumia smartphones to a monitor or the Microsoft Display Dock (HD-500), users will get to work with greater screen real estate. When users add a keyboard and mouse to that productivity equation, they will be able to work in the same manner as they do on a PC as apps such as Microsoft Office and Outlook scale up to create a big screen-optimised work environment that makes users more productive. In addition, users will still be able to take calls or performing other tasks whilst performing tasks in this mode.

Photographers and videographers will also love the Lumia 950 and 950 XL thanks to both features the latest-generation PureView cameras with 20-megapixel sensors, triple LED natural flash and 4K video capture capability. All of this technology equates to faster focus, crisper images and enhances videos even when snapping shots or recording video within challenging conditions like low lighting situations.

The Lumia 950 and Lumia 950 XL are locally available for a recommended retail price (RRP) of ZAR 10,548.00 for the Lumia 950 and ZAR 11,499 for the Lumia 950 XL.

Xbox brings new gaming experiences

Beyond productivity on every device and screen size, Windows 10 also unlocks greater entertainment for Xbox gamers. Powered by Windows 10, the new Xbox One experience has become available for local gaming consoles. This free update is a complete redesign built on the cornerstone of Windows 10 and provides the fastest and most social Xbox experience ever.

“With Windows 10 and these new Microsoft devices, you are at the centre of magical new experiences,” Anthony Doherty, Operating Systems Group Lead of Microsoft South Africa. “Windows 10 offers the best platform to get things done and be entertained at home, work, or on the go, regardless of which device or form factor you are using.”
Additionally, Xbox One Backward Compatibility will allow Xbox One gamers to play Xbox 360 games for free with 100 games already available and hundreds more titles in the release pipeline for the months ahead. Backward-compatible Xbox 360 games will also be playable on Windows 10 through game streaming from Xbox One to Windows 10.

Together with the update to Windows 10 and backwards compatibility, games such as “Halo 5: Guardians,” “Rise of the Tomb Raider,” “Forza Motorsport 6,” and “Gears of War: Ultimate Edition” should ensure that this festive season delivers the greatest gaming line up in Xbox history.
