Star Wars

Everybody knows the power the dark side of the Force wields, but these Sith Lords, fueled by hatred, fear, and vengeance, know the true meaning of unlimited power. Here is a list of the most powerful Star Wars Sith Lords…

darth bane

“I am the Dark Lord who will restore the Sith to glory. They call me Bane.” ―Darth Bane

Darth Bane, born under the name of Dessel, was the Sith’ari and the Dark Lord of the Sith responsible for creating the Rule of Two. In 990 BBY, ten years after the destruction of the Brotherhood, Bane sought to learn how to create a holocron, through which he would pass down his knowledge to future Sith Lords. Bane was extremely dedicated to the Sith cause, and was determined to bring about the end of the Jedi, though he knew he might not live to see it. He died in a duel with his former apprentice Zannah.

“Everything is proceeding as I have foreseen.” ―Darth Sidious

Darth Sidious is probably the most well-known Sith, thanks to the Star Wars films. He was a human male Dark Lord of the Sith who served as the last Supreme Chancellor of the Galactic Republic and as the Emperor of the Galactic Empire. Sidious, born Sheev Palpatine, was trained in the dark side of the Force by Darth Plagueis. Eventually, Sidious took on his own apprentice, Darth Maul, and killed his master.

“Come to the dark side now, when it calls, or you will have failed. The dark side will forever shun you, the weak-minded fool who believed he had the right to wield its power!” ―Freedon Nadd

Freedon Nadd was an Old Republic Jedi prodigy whose conscious decision to embrace the dark side of the Force had a significant impact on galactic events for many generations after his death. Nadd’s career began as a student in training on the planet Ossus, but a lust for greater power caused him to slay his Master, Matta Tremayne, and renounce his affiliation with the Jedi Order. He fled Ossus and made his way to the heart of the old Sith Empire, where he gained an enormous wealth of dark side knowledge. He eventually followed the Force to the jungle moon of Yavin 4, where he found and apprenticed himself to the ancient Dark Lord Naga Sadow.

You. You will be one of the great ones—” ―The spirit of Freedon Nadd foretells Ulic Qel-Droma’s destiny

Ulic Qel-Droma was, during different parts of his life, a Jedi Knight of the Old Republic, a warlord in the Empress Teta star system, and a Dark Lord of the Sith. A Jedi on a mission who fell to the dark side after being injected with a rage-augmenting injection. He dueled with the Nadd’s apprentice, but the duel was intervened by Nadd’s spirit declaring them both as the Dark Lords. His connection with the force was severed by Nomi Sunrider, the greatest Jedi. Eventually, he started regretting his actions and brought the Jedi and the Forces under the hold of the greatest Sith Lord ever.

“The chains of the grave cannot hold a Dark Lord of the Sith…” ―Marka Ragnos

Marka Ragnos was a male half-breed Dark Lord of the Sith who lived during the time of the first Sith Empire, born long before 5100 BBY, and, around that same year, dueled Sith Lord Simus for the title of Dark Lord of the Sith and control of the Sith Empire. Ragnos defeated Simus, who was beheaded in the battle with the other aspiring Dark Lord. Ragnos lived for over a hundred years, growing in power, pitting his adversaries against each other and ensuring that there were no threats to his throne.

“I was the greatest Dark Lord of the Sith. I am Exar Kun.” ―Exar Kun

Exar Kun was a Jedi Knight who fell to the dark side, assumed the mantle of Dark Lord of the Sith, and waged a destructive war against the Galactic Republic and Jedi Order during the era of the Old Sith Wars. Seeing in Kun a potential avenue to regain a physical form, Nadd directed the young Jedi to the ancient Sith homeworld of Korriban. There, Nadd conspired to grievously injure Kun, only healing the man when he accepted the dark side into his heart.

“Did you come here for answers? There are none. The call of Korriban is strong, but it is the call of the dead.” ―Darth Sion

Darth Sion, the Lord of Pain, was a Sith Lord who lived in the time of the Old Sith Wars. As a Sith Marauder in the Great Sith War, Sion fought for Exar Kun’s Sith Empire until the day he was struck down. Rather than die, though, Sion found that by calling on his pain, anger, and hatred, he could rise from certain death and achieve immortality, at the cost of all-consuming agony. With a body fractured and decomposing, but held together by the dark side of the Force, Sion survived the Great Sith War.

“Darth Plagueis was a Dark Lord of the Sith so powerful and so wise, he could use the Force to influence the midi-chlorians to create life. He had such a knowledge of the dark side, he could even keep the ones he cared about from dying.” ―Palpatine

Darth Plagueis, remembered as Darth Plagueis the Wise, was a male Muun Dark Lord of the Sith and heir to the lineage of Darth Bane. Trained by Darth Tenebrous, Plagueis mastered the art and science of midi-chlorian manipulation. Obsessed with eternal life, he experimented with ways to cheat death and create new life from the midi-chlorians.

“My life spans millennia. Legions have risen to test me. […] My ascendance is inevitable. A day, a year, a millennium—it matters not. I hold the patience of stone and the will of stars. Your striving is insignificant. Let your death be the same.” ―The Sith Emperor

Vitiate, known for the vast majority of his life as simply the Sith Emperor, was a Dark Lord of the Sith who reconstituted the Sith Empire after its destruction in the Great Hyperspace War and went on to rule it for over 1300 years.

“I don’t know your name—but I take up your cause. I will not remove your mask until there is justice—until the Mandalorians have been defeated once and for all. So swears… Revan!” ―Revan

Probably the most powerful Sith, Revan—renowned as the Revanchist, honored as the Revan, reviled as Revan the Butcher, dreaded as the Dark Lord of the Sith Darth Revan, and praised as the Prodigal Knight—was a Human male who played pivotal roles as both Jedi and Sith in the Mandalorian Wars and the Jedi Civil War.
