Nokia’s Snakes to Make a Comeback in New Game

Snakes Rewind - Header

If you happened to own a Cellphone back in the late 90s or early 2000s, it would likely have been one of the millions of Nokia handsets sold. And while the company enjoyed their position at the top of the heap, without any inkling of being dethroned, one game has enjoyed the manufacturer’s success almost as much. The game was originally programmed by Taneli Armanto, a design engineer in Nokia, way back in 1997, which garnered an uncanny success. While PC games were making great advancements into the exploration of 3D FPSs and RPGs, the mobile device was still in its infancy with minimalistic Atari-type games all it was capable of at the time. And yet, the world loved the basics of Snake, thanks largely to its portability, and in addition to being able to brag amongst your friends as to how long your snake could grow (no pun intended there).

Snakes Rewind - 01

Developer, Rumilus Design, has recently announced that it will be releasing a new version of the game, titled Snake Rewind, and will be available on iOS and Android from 14th May 2015. Contrary to beliefs, this is not the sequel to the game. In fact, the version many would recall on devices such as the Nokia 3310 was Snake II, the actual sequel. The game has seen 8 previous versions, including Snake (original), Snake II, Snake Xenzia, Snake EX, Snake EX2, Snakes (3D version designed for N-Gage), Snake III, and Snakes Subsonic. Will you be ‘snaking’ come next week?
