Amid rumours and leaks this past week, Sony have seemingly rushed to get ahead of this by officially announcing the Xperia Z4 in their home country, Japan, via the official website. As we’ve come to expect over each of the previous iterations of the Xperia Z series, and with the Z4 Tablet that was unveiled at MWC at the end of February, the Z4 doesn’t stray too much from the core design.
There are some slight changes in the design, with rounder edges, and a thinner (6.9mm) and lighter (144g) build. Other inclusions on the unit are the Qualcomm MSM8994 Snapdragon 810 chipset, with 2Ghz 8-Core, 64-bit CPU and Adreno 430 GPU. The 5.2” screen (~70.9% screen-to-body ratio) has a 1080x1920px resolution display at 424ppi. The battery sees a slight reduction in mAh to 2930mAh, which will hopefully experience less strain on it with a more efficient chipset and Android 5.0 Lollipop OS. Thus far, the unit has only been confirmed in Japan this Summer (our Winter), as per the release, with no further news on a worldwide release.
