Shot in and around Johannesburg, a new video sponsored by Ballantine’s (the world’s No 2 Scotch whisky) highlights the talents of world famous local DJ and Producer Black Coffee, who recreates his most famous work, ‘Rock My World’, in a unique musical experiment using only a 40-strong voice choir. Comprised of Africa’s finest vocalists, the group is lead by an enthusiastic Coffee who blends his style of electronic music and vocal techniques in a remarkably special union that can only be described as true African spirit.
“Recreating one of my tracks using only vocals has given me the chance to really push the boundaries, something I love to do,” said Black Coffee, who opens the video by explaining his own backstory and beliefs. “Musical experimentation and its power to bring people together is why I do what I do. When Ballantine’s asked me what my dream experiment would be, I wanted to set us the challenge to do something unique. To see the group of vocalists we put together from throughout Africa with each playing their own part, producing the final recreation of ‘Rock My World’ was an amazingly satisfying moment.” Surprisingly, even without the use of a kick drum, you’ll soon find your feet tapping and your fingers clicking to the rhythms of the awesome creation.
The video is the latest in a series presented by Ballantine’s, each of which has been shot around the world and features unique individuals who represent Ballantine’s global mantra, ‘Stay True, Leave an Impression’.
