Samsung Electronics South Africa, the market leader in TV technology for the last eight years, announced today that the world’s first revolutionary Curved UHD TV is now available in retail stores nationwide.
“Following last year’s introduction of the Samsung UHD TV, Samsung is continuing to drive industry growth through tremendous innovation in UHD picture quality, breakthrough design and consumer choice. The combination of our curved design and UHD picture quality creates the ultimate immersive experience for people who are passionate about entertainment. Samsung is well-positioned to meet UHD demand with our new beautifully designed, feature-packed and future-ready Smart TVs,” says Ansgar Pabst, Business Lead for TV/AV, Samsung Electronics SA.
Better and Broader Samsung UHD TV Line-up and Ecosystem for Ultimate Picture Today and Tomorrow
Samsung’s UHD TVs provide crisp picture quality because they have four times the resolution and pixels of Full HD. Additionally, all UHD TVs feature UHD Upscaling, which gives users great picture quality regardless of source material.
The proprietary technology converts Full HD, HD and lower resolution sources to nearly-UHD picture quality. UHD Dimming technology also helps to further optimise picture quality by processing each block of a picture and delivering deeper blacks and improved contrast.
As the category leader, Samsung is making significant investments and establishing critical partnerships to invigorate the market and expedite the delivery of a UHD ecosystem to consumers.
Samsung also offers the UHD Videopack, a 360-degree UHD content solution. This one terabyte hard disc includes UHD quality Fox and Paramount Pictures films and other UHD content. Consumers can now also download additional UHD content that becomes available.
At the same time, Samsung supports all of the latest UHD TV standards in an effort to build a holistic UHD ecosystem with premier content partners. Samsung UHD TVs are also the only TVs on the market that are future-ready due to the Samsung UHD Evolution Kit. In fact, Samsung UHD TVs are the only devices in the industry to be PrimePass certified, which means users can be confident about enjoying the new detail and picture quality of this next-generation TV technology.
Overall Design Concept: One Design
With a screen that seems to hover in the air offering a more immersive experience, the Curved UHD TVs can also be perceived purely as ‘a visually appealing object’ even when not in use. The curved TV has a three-dimensional effect that is aesthetically beautiful at any angle. Not surprisingly, the design has a lot to do with this. ‘One Design’ is a design philosophy that unifies various highly advanced components and features of the TV with simplicity and a natural, yet attractive, aesthetic, ultimately leading to a better user experience.
The TV not only needs to be visually attractive, but also needs to provide a quality user experience. ‘User experience’ for TVs is the end-to-end ‘watching experience’ — arriving at home, seeing a TV in the living room, turning it on and experiencing it. All of this is included in what ‘User Experience’ defines and it is carefully considered in the design planning process. In this respect, the Curved UHD TV presented special challenges because of its multi-dimensional direction of perception.
Previously, TVs had a tendency to offer a flat, passive experience. However, with the Curved UHD TVs, through the multisensory experience from UHD screens and quality sound, it completely involves the viewer with the programme; you are in it, not just looking at it.
Samsung Audio Keeps Life and Design in Tune
“Our Audio-Video solutions form an integrated part of the UHD TV eco-system and contribute to a true home cinema experience,” says Pabst. “We are currently delivering great new ways of enjoying superb sound in every room of the house. This ensures for a home cinema experience that is not only picture intensive with all the benefits of UHD TV, but also sound extensive. The focus of our strategy is to ensure consumers have the benefit of true wireless audio, combined with world-class design, ease of use and sound quality.”
Samsung’s new Multiroom Link feature allows a selection of products, including the 2014 flagship Soundbar and Home Theatre system to connect and be controlled wirelessly from a single device.
With the TV SoundConnect feature available to Samsung Soundbars, consumers can connect wirelessly to their Samsung Smart TV. The UHD picture is also complemented with outstanding HD quality sound and the listening area is optimised with Surround Sound expansions, enhancing the TV sound with 320W of sound power. Users can also stream music wirelessly from their Bluetooth devices and power their units with the Bluetooth PowerOn function (H-Series only).
The Wireless Audio-Multiroom System enables listeners to enjoy wireless audio entertainment in any room of the house, from a variety of music sources. The system can be fully controlled from a downloadable app and is facilitated through easy plug-and-play installation.
“For Samsung, the Curved UHD TV is the next-generation TV and enables us to take entertainment to new heights. Our curved UHD TV and new audio offerings combine the best in design, picture quality, regional Smart features and mobile sound entertainment,” concludes Pabst.
The Curved UHD is set to be released in two variants, a 65″ and a 78″, and is expected to retail at R69,999 and R150,000, respectively. When purchasing a Samsung Curved UHD TV, buyers will also receive P.A.T. (ADH for TVs), as well as 1TB ADSL data from Vox Telecom (valid for 12 months).
