Flappy Bird Creator Removes Game from Mobile Stores

After just few days at the top the phenomenon known as Flappy Bird (a remarkably successful endless runner game) has been removed from from mobile stores, including iTunes Appstore and Google’s Play Store. According to the game’s developer, Dong Nguyen, who announced his plans to remove the game via Twitter, the game is ruining his life and its success was something he never wanted. Go figure!

He later added:

According to an interview with The Verge last week, Dong Nguyen disclosed that the game was making upwards of $50K per day in ad revenue.

For those who missed out, don’t fret. A similar game, called “Ironpants”, has taken its place aboard the iOS App Store’s free games chart. The concept of course is identical; The user controls a flying thing by tapping to make it fly up. If the character touches anything, you lose. Gone is the bird, which is now replaced with a superhero. Gone are the huge pips, replaced with crates.
