In the midst of the hundreds of rumours floating around the net regarding the latest comic book films, actress Katee Sackhoff decided to throw her name into the hat by informing Esquire of her interest in playing Harley Quinn.
“I love Harley Quinn,” Sackhoff said. “I do. I just love it, It’s not been done before. It’s this fantastic mix. I mean, it’s like the female Joker. Who wouldn’t want to do that? Quite potentially — it’s not around so I wouldn’t feel the weight of it — I’d probably sell my first born at this point to do that.”
Harley Quinn is a fictional character, a super villain in the DC Universe. The character was introduced on September 11, 1992, in Batman: The Animated Series and later adapted into DC Comics’ Batman comic books, first appearing in The Batman Adventures #12 (September 1993). As suggested by her name (a play on the word “harlequin”), she is clad in the manner of a traditional harlequin jester. The character is a frequent accomplice/girlfriend of Batman’s nemesis the Joker, and is also close to Poison Ivy, from whom she gained her immunity to poisons and toxins.
The character is yet to make a big screen appearance. But it would seem incredibly strange to have a Harley Quinn without a Mr. J. Unfortunately, I doubt Warner Bros. will risk casting another actor as the Joker at this point.
