Olympus Has Fallen: South African Premiere

Olympus Has Fallen-South African Premiere - Header

The South African Premiere of Olympus Has Fallen took place yesterday, 8th April 2013, at a red carpet, black tie event hosted by Crystal Brook Distribution and Ster-Kinekor at The [email protected] The premiere forms part of the world tour, which features appearances from the likes of Gerard Butler and Aaron Eckhart. The pair were greeted by a number of fans, mostly overly excited women, and a scattering of SA celebrities, who seemingly blended into the crowd with very little attention given to each. The list of celebrities included presenters, Boity and Dineo Moeketsi, Springbok, Francois Hougaard, production car racer, Gennaro Bonafede, model, Stevel Marc, comedian, Jeremy Mansfield and Hollywood reporter, Jen Su.

The evening started with a rather strange walk down the red carpet for attendees, who were treated to drinks and finger snacks before MC on the night, radio DJ Anele, introduced the arrival of the stars [while dropping quite a number of spoilers along the way (thanks for that!)]. Butler and Eckhart seemed to enjoy taking the time for a picture or two with every passing fan, asking each of their names and addressing them as such with a few words or two. During the on-stage interviews in front of the crowd, the two answered questions from Anele, as she managed to coerce Butler to repeat the lines that made him famous as King Leonidas in 300: “This is Sparta.”

The stars were then scooted away to a secluded section of the venue, and after the dust had settled, those who attended were treated to the screening of the feature film. Butler and Eckhart have a few more stops around South Africa to promote their movie before jetting off.
