There have been many rumours over past 12 months for both the specs and looks of Microsoft’s next console, the Xbox 720. As the reveal date approaches (possibly at this year’s E3), more and more specs are being uncovered; mostly via the team at VGLeaks. The latest specs to be unveiled for the Xbox 720, codenamed Durango, comes in the form of a system block diagram, from which much can be deduced.

• 8x 1.6 GHz CPU Cores, each with 32 KB L1 instruction cache and 32 KB L1 data cache
• Each module of 4x CPU Cores has a 2 MB L2 cache equalling 4 MB of L2 cache
• Each core has an independent hardware thread (able to issue 2 instructions per clock)


• D3D11.1 class 800-MHz GPU
• 12 Shader Cores with a total of 768 threads, with each thread able to perform one scalar multiplication and addition operation (MADD) per clock cycle
• GPU can effectively issue 1.2 trillion floating-point operations per second
