Kaspersky Internet Security 2013 - Header

It becomes harder to maintain a virus free PC year on year. The amount of viruses, Trojans, spam, scams, hack and crack attacks continue to grow interminably. The problem for companies developing anti-virus software is that they can only react to a virus, Trojan, etc. once it has been released. Anti-virus software, thus, has to be updated for solutions almost on a daily basis, with the overall software improved every year. Kaspersky Labs is one of the forerunners in such software developments, and recently released their updated security software, Kaspersky Internet Security 2013.

Kaspersky Internet Security 2013 - Features

For those users who already own a copy of the 2012 version, you will notice that not much has changed in terms of User Interface. Since this is an anti-virus suite, there isn’t a huge requirement to reinvent the wheel in that respect. From a design point of view, the lack of UI improvements means that no emphasis or priority was given to it. From a consumer perspective, we can only hope that more time and effort was placed on provide more enhanced features and functionality.

Kaspersky Internet Security 2013 - Secure Input

A quick peep at the settings menu and you will notice only 2 new features, Safe Money and Secure Date Input. The Safe Money feature allows the user to setup a protected browser session when viewing any banking websites, and also added bank sites that aren’t automatically picked up. For highly sensitive information, such as typing in banking details for example, the Secure Data Input provides a popup keyboard that allows you to type information without key presses being monitored by any spyware you may have picked up on your PC, which the anti-virus software didn’t detect.

Kaspersky Internet Security 2013 - Settings

Kaspersky Internet Security 2013 still provides you with all the requirements when protecting your PC. These include anti-virus scanner, mail scanner, Web scanner, IM monitoring, system watcher, network attack blocker, parental control, anti-spam, anti-banner, and the 2 above mentioned new features. Additional functionality includes self-defence, battery saving mode, compatibility mode and setup gaming profiles, allowing you to choose how games connect to the network and the level of firewall protection you require when playing games online.

Kaspersky Internet Security 2013 - Cloud Protection

Kaspersky Internet Security 2013 has a retail cost of R417, which has a licence period of 1 year for 1 PC. To many this might seem like an unnecessary expense, but if you consider that a number of IT companies charge an hourly rate of close to R200 to simply remove a virus you may have picked up while using the Internet or an infected flash drive. If you consider the time and money saved having to lug your PC around to be fixed, not to mention the added support and features you get with Kaspersky Internet Security, it’s a really good purchase in the end. Despite the lack of new features to the 2013 edition, if you don’t already own this anti-virus suite, and you don’t own an existing anti-virus suite, Kaspersky Internet Security 2013 won’t let you down.

In the event that a user may already own the previous instalment of Kaspersky Internet Security, you can save 30% on the upgrade costs when renewing your licence online. This also provides you with the option of upgrading to the latest software.
