Windows Phone 8 Smartphone Variations

Windows Phone 8 Variations - Header

The official launch date for Windows Phone 8 (codename Apollo) is scheduled for 29th October 2012. The new OS, however, will not be compatible with the current line-up of Windows Phone devices, including those from Nokia, HTC and Samsung. This, then, means that Windows Phone 8 is not labelled as an update on Windows Phone 7, but rather a line altogether. Despite the unreleased OS, the 3 biggest OEMs sporting Microsoft’s mobile OS, have all unveiled their new range of Windows Phone 8 smartphones; Samsung with their ATIV S, Nokia’s Lumia 920 and HTC’s Windows Phone 8X. These are the 3 flagship smartphones for the representative OEMs. Huawei has also announced their intention to move into the Windows Phone space with their Ascend W1, which hasn’t been officially launched yet.

If you’re a fan of Windows Phone and don’t pledge allegiance to any of the 3 OEMs, you may find it a tough choice when choosing a Windows Phone 8 smartphone. Besides the obvious exactness that lies in the OS, there’s no difference at all in the choice of CPU and GPU. But the similarities don’t end there, as many of the other internals have similar specs.
