Today, 29th August, was marked as the next big unveiling for Samsung for 2012. Since many already knew that the Samsung Galaxy Note II was due to be unveiled today, there wasn’t as much hype surrounding the event as there was for the Samsung Galaxy SIII earlier this year. Take nothing away though, today’s event is still an important occasion for Samsung, especially when you consider the popularity of the original Galaxy Note.

So what can we expect from the sequel? First and foremost, the screen is bumped up to 5.5” in size. The Note II has an HD Super AMOLED display, at a resolution of 1,280×720 and Corning Gorilla Glass 2. Despite this increase in screen size, the Note II still manages to decrease its thickness, down by 0.4mm to end up with a 9.4mm width. To make this even more remarkable, the update also sees an increase in battery to 3,100mAh, with fast-charging and all. In addition, we can expect a Quad-Core Exynos process clocked at 1.6GHz and packs the same Mali-400MP we find in the Samsung Galaxy SIII. Other specs include an front-facing 1.9MP camera, and an 8MP camera on back, with 1080p video. You will find the Galaxy Note II in Titanium Gray and Marble White.

As you will no doubt have noticed, the Samsung Galaxy Note II has the same build and design as the Galaxy SIII, despite the increased size. The good news for those eager fans waiting to get their hands on one, is that it will be released with Android Jelly Bean. This means that there won’t be any long wait for the update, as we’ve come to expect from the other smartphones in the Galaxy line-up.

Other software additions are focused on the S Pen features, such as Air View, which allows you to browse through the gallery and folders by floating the stylus above the screen. The stylus included with the Note II has a rubber tip, which has enhanced accuracy. You will also find all the software available on the SIII on the Note II.

The Samsung Galaxy Note II will be available in Europe, Asia and Middle East in October, and the US by the end of the year.
